Michel Darling is a Ukrainian-American artist working with sculpture and anthropological research to reactivate the ancient fantasy of Homo Faber; technology as an alchemical movement of the West to conquer death and fate, to accelerate nature and ‘perfect’ it, to arrange reality as to not experience it. Through a secular worldview of matter, resources are always in flux, taking the form of toaster ovens, wheels, machinery, computer chips: metallurgy becomes a shifting chimera that holds all human history in its molecular memory. Darling is interested only in the transmutation of matter that occur in the daily life we perform.
