Michel Darling is a first-gen Ukrainian American artist working with sculpture. Born in Fresno, California in 2003, and currently practicing and working in New York City. Darling’s practice is informed by and created through a relationship with tools, particularly a hybrid between metalsmithing and digital fabrication. Darling’s work is sculptural in seeking to create art objects that exist between pragmatic and projection. The media he works with is transdisciplinary; matter is both the medium and message.
Currently researching:
The ancient fantasy of Homo Faber: (Latin for ‘Man the Maker’) “–alludes to the idea that human beings are able to control their fate and their environment as a result of the use of tools.”
Technology is posed as an alchemical movement of the West which aims to accelerate and ‘perfect’ matter, as to conquer Death (i.e. nature, & fate).
